"The Beat Goes On: Women's Heart Disease and Current Recommendations for the Obstetrician/Gynecologist"

Learning objectives: At the end of this talk the participants should be able to: 

  1. Summarize the current state/epidemiology of CV disease in the US 
  2. Recognize the unique aspects of CV disease in women 
  3. Apply screening recommendations and guidelines in a range of patient populations 

8:35 – 8:55 am -- Speaker 2: Justin Lappen, MD - MFM 

Learning objectives: At the end of this talk the participants should be able to: 

  1. Describe the impact of CV disease impact on pregnancy 
  2. Characterize pertinent care considerations for pregnant patients with acquired or congenital cardiovascular disease. 
  3. Identify and initially manage cardiomyopathy during pregnancy and the immediate postpartum period

  1. Recommend CV disease risk factor reduction and prevention strategies 
  2. Discuss the impact of menopause and HRT on CV disease 
  3. Formulate effective strategies for contraception in patients with or at risk for CV disease

  • Older gyn (menopausal/perimenopausal) 
  • Pregnant/Postpartum (case-based)

  1. Strategies to educate, screen and prevent CV disease in your patients 
  2. How to implement cost-effective practice improvements to improve care in this area 
  3. Target areas to consider: Tobacco cessation, HTN, Obesity, Exercise, Referral sources, etc.
